Forget Me Not, 2024, Eight-channel video, projection mapping, collected sounds and composed music, 8min, crape myrtle, Dimensions variable.
A crape myrtle tree, having concluded a century of life, is reborn in the exhibition hall, brought back to life by this collaboration between PODO Museum and gardening studio SUMU. The tree, full of vitality, sprouts and blossoms for one hundred days from early summer to late autumn before apparently transforming into a lonely star and returning to space, its journey complete. Meanwhile, the strings of an orchestra begin to tune in unison, its harmony seeming to hint at the cyclical nature of life, germinating anew. A total of 8 projectors are employed in this space, where the glorious memories of the tree—renewed in all things—are expressed as an immersive installation piece. Also on view are video clips from “Memory Video Contest,” a participatory event held by the PODO Museum in 2023.
*Directed by Chloe Kim, produced by Eunseok Jang, videography by Youseok Park, music by Hugh Keice, and landscape gardening by SUMU
