Deductive ObjectㅡBottari, 2023 produced in collaboration with the Sttatliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Meissen, similarly extends Kimsooja’s principle of her bottari. The porcelain sculptures take the form of the moon jar: A highly symbolic icon of Korean art from the Joseon period (1392-1910). The vessels are composed of two almost hemispherical bowls that were fitted precisely at the rim. Each unique in its shape, they recall the appearance of the celestial body on the days shortly before or after the full moon. The contours of the horizontal and vertical orbits metaphorize the container as a contemplative process of life and time, making the immaterial and the ephemeral tangible and perceptible.
